Are tours available?
Absolutely! Tours are available every other Monday at 11 a.m. To schedule a tour, please click the “Plan a Visit” tab at the top of the page.
Does KWI offer housing?
KWI has several rental options available to students. Please visit kwi.us/properties to see 3-D virtual tours and view detailed descriptions of our properties! For more information, email our housing team at kwi@kwi.us.
Do you accept FAFSA to cover tuition?
Not at this time. We are currently in the process of application for Title IV funding.
How do students pay for tuition?
Currently, students acquire personal loans from their bank or other eligible borrowers. Additionally, serious enrollees will seek out the many available private scholarships for career training.
How long is the course?
Our most popular course is the Certified Pipe Welder, which is 6 months. It is a total of 960 clock hours. The Certified Structural Welder course is 4 months or a total or 640 clock hours. The shortest course is the Certified Fabricator Welder at 3 months or 480 hours
Do you offer courses for specific welding processes and/or upgrades?
Certainly. Our custom welding course is for students that already possess some level of training and/or skill. The outline is designed specifically to the individual based upon their needs.
Can I transfer training I have already had?
KWI does not give credit for previous experience, education or coursework; however, KWI’s entire program is self paced. If you have prior experience then you will move through the program at your own speed.
Am I able to take classes while in High School?
Unfortunately not, all students must have a high school diploma or GED to be admitted to Kentucky Welding Institute. Students must be a minimum of 17 years of age at enrollment and 18 upon expected graduation of KWI for successful placement.
Is a diploma or GED required to enroll?
Yes, a high school diploma or GED is required for admission.
